Emmanuel Jal arrived at the Kakuma Refugee camp on Friday accompanied by Tania Campbel his manager, DJ. Silverstone, Nyarwach his sister who is also an artist and Nyalwal another budding artist. His visit to the camp was part of the "We Want Peace" Africa tour that he is currently on, having started in Nairobi and over the weekend he visited the Kakuma Refugee Camp.
News about his arrival spread quickly and the community waited in anticipation for his performance. Jal met up with local artists and they settled on the theme of peace and unity for the song that they recorded on Sunday. He later on visited the Sudanese community in the camp and they echoed their gratitude for his efforts in peace promotion. DJ. Silverstone shot a music video for Jal with a group of local artists, giving them a chance to learn a few tricks from him and he also created the beats and recorded the song Jal did with the local artists.
The "We Want Peace" tour is headed on to Johannesburg, South Africa from the 2nd to 5th of October and will conclude in Zambia on the 7th to 9th. Jal's manager disclosed that the he is in talks with Alicia Keys to possibly record a score for a film about Sudan.
Jal had an electrifying performance on Saturday, headlining an event organized by FilmAid. Several local artists curtain raised for him with equally captivating performances. Here are some photos from the weekend that was.
